Connecticut Resident Gets Stung by Austin, TX Company

Wallingford, CT - March 5, 2009 – Connecticut Better Business Bureau is cautioning consumers may want to steer clear of two “online pawnshops” operated by Austin, Texas-based Rerun Media.

The web sites, DVDPawn.com and GamePawn.com instruct consumers to send in their old DVDs and video games, and promise to send money the day the merchandise is received. However, according to consumer complaints to Better Business Bureau, unhappy consumers say they sent their games and DVDs as instructed, but were not paid what they were promised or not paid at all. Consumers who wanted to check on the status of their payments also complain that their e-mails and phone calls to the parent company, Rerun Media go unanswered.

A Pawcatuck, Connecticut man was among those who filed complaints against DVDPawn.com. He said he sent almost 40 DVDs to the company in mid-December, 2008, but never received any money. He repeatedly tried to contact the firm without success. DVDPawn.com finally acknowledged receipt of his DVDs in late February, and returned his discs upon his request, but only after he filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau and provided proof of delivery.

The Austin, Texas BBB says the company did respond to some complaints, but as of April, 2008, it stopped answering Better Business Bureau complaints forwarded to their attention.

Connecticut Better Business Bureau President, Paulette Scarpetti, says this is a case of “sellers beware.”

“Consumers should always be sure who they are doing business with. It is simple to check company Reliability Reports and rating grades at www.bbb.org, and verify their track record in the marketplace.”

BBB files on Rerun Media reveal consumers allege they do not receive the amount originally quoted for their DVDs and video games, some don’t get paid at all and the company does not honor its guarantee which states payments will be sent as soon as the merchandise is received.

Rerun Media has been given an “F” grade by BBB’s ratings system. This rating is based on the large number of complaints filed against the company and its failure to respond to or resolve them.
