Wallingford, CT - January 26, 2012 – Legal and forensic teams continue to fight against a sophisticated phishing operation that continues to hit businesses and consumers across the nation. Connecticut Better Business Bureau today was contacted by both BBB-accredited and non-accredited business that received the correspondence.
In recent weeks there have been several variations, ranging from a phishing email claiming to be a BBB complaint, to a fake request to update a "business profile." The phishing emails appear to originate from BBB but do not.
A common thread is that all of these emails contain a hyperlink which, if clicked, can download malicious spyware onto your computer and compromise the safety and integrity of recipients’ data. The links also may ask for business information which can then be used for fraud.
